As you may or may not be aware, Brewer is fortunate to have an Ice Hockey Arena. However in the past this has not always been a positive for the City of Brewer. Penobscot Ice Arena (formally known as the TJ Ryan Center) has much potential and is under new management. We would like to take this opportunity to express how this could be a benefit to the area kids and businesses. We will be working diligently to repair and improve the cosmetic as well as the functionality of the rink. We plan to hire from the local area to work, giving employment to the area. We also plan to bring in more tournaments, hockey camps, and other outside events which will in turn supply more customers to local businesses. We would like to give businesses in the area the opportunity to advertise in the rink itself as we hope to have many spectators viewing these advertisements. Although we are planning to make many of the improvements and repairs ourselves, any sponsorships and advertisement will just increase the potential of this rink, and give the youth of this area a nicer place to participate in ice related activities. Several area businesses have approached us asking if the new management will be accepting advertisement as the arena has not in the past, thus we want to inform everyone that advertisement is available.

Obviously it is an ice arena and as such it has the potential to be a highly effective facility for local youth, junior high and high school student hockey programs. Our intention is to work with the local youth hockey associations to launch new programs, offer a year round training center, learn to skate programs, learn to play hockey programs, girl’s and women’s hockey programs. We would also like to develop a Junior Hockey program in this area as it has been absent for several years, leaving no place for the young, gifted hockey players to stay at home and play at an advanced level.
